- Add one-line moduledocs to 18 LiveViews that were carrying
@moduledoc false. Each line names the route and summarizes what
the page does so a future reader knows where to look before
opening the file.
- Add MapLive handle_event tests for toggle_radar, select_time /
set_selected_time, point_detail, map_bounds, retry_initial_scores.
Assertions focus on socket-state transitions and "didn't crash"
rather than raw HTML — map_bounds in particular has no visible
render-side effect (it push_events the new scores to the JS hook).
- Rust pipeline: integration-shaped test that hand-builds a 2-cell
surface + pressure grid, runs merge → cell_to_conditions →
precompute_band_invariants → composite_score_with → write_atomic
→ decode, asserting header + body length round-trip. Closes the
'pipeline's happy path is only covered by unit tests' gap.
Rework of d61fbd3's dialyzer suppression: the 4 warnings from
LiveTable.LiveResource's macro expansion are now fixed at the
root rather than hidden via .dialyzer_ignore.exs.
Changes:
- Delete .dialyzer_ignore.exs and remove ignore_warnings from
mix.exs. No more hidden suppressions.
- New MicrowavepropWeb.LiveTableResource shim that wraps
use LiveTable.LiveResource and overrides:
* maybe_subscribe/1 — explicit :ok = on Phoenix.PubSub.subscribe/2
(previously discarded, tripping :unmatched_return).
* handle_info/2 — explicit _ = on File.rm, Process.send_after.
Switch all 4 LiveTable-using LiveViews (contact_live/index,
beacon_live/index, admin/contact_edit_live, user_management_live/index)
to use MicrowavepropWeb.LiveTableResource instead.
- New priv/dep_patches/live_table-0.4.1.patch adds _ = in front of
LiveTable.LiveSelectHelpers.restore_live_select_from_params/2 in
the dep's macro-expanded handle_params/3. The call's return was
silently discarded, tripping the fourth warning per LiveView.
- New lib/mix/tasks/deps.patch.ex applies every
priv/dep_patches/*.patch to its target dep idempotently after
mix deps.get. Wired into the :setup alias + overridden
mix deps.get so the patch survives cache regeneration in CI.
- Other modified files in this commit are the spec-coverage
additions from the parallel agent pass (beacons.ex,
commercial.ex, propagation.ex, weather.ex, narr_client.ex,
run_timing.ex, 3 workers) — tighter specs for bounds, tuple
shapes, schema-typed params. Dialyzer remains at 0 after
the changes.
Upstream TODO: send a PR for the live_table `_ =` fix. Once
merged and released, drop the patch + mix task + bump the dep.
mix dialyzer --format short | grep ^lib/ | wc -l -> 0

The "Plot path to beacon" action now includes `tx_power_dbm` and
`src_gain_dbi` in the /path query string so the path calculator's TX
side emits the same EIRP as the beacon out of the box. The beacon
schema stores `power_mw` as EIRP already (per Beacons.RangeEstimate),
so we take 10·log10(power_mw), split against a default 30 dBi dish,
and clamp the TX power to a 0 dBm floor so very-low-EIRP beacons
produce a sane gain/power split instead of -10 dBm outputs.
Examples:
10 W EIRP (40 dBm) → 30 dBi dish + 10 dBm TX
100 W EIRP (50 dBm) → 30 dBi dish + 20 dBm TX
100 mW EIRP (20 dBm) → 20 dBi + 0 dBm (clamped)
Previously RangeEstimate.estimate/1 ran on every beacon page mount,
even though the cells data was only rendered after the user flipped
the coverage toggle — a wasted bbox grid pass per page load. Start
with estimate: nil, compute lazily in handle_event("toggle_coverage")
when flipping on, and push the cells payload to the Leaflet hook via
a new load_coverage event. The JS hook no longer reads data-cells on
mount and only builds the cellLayer when the server sends it. Cached
in the socket so re-toggling is instant.
The estimated current coverage map is only meaningful on bands
where atmospheric attenuation shapes the reach — below 5.76 GHz
it's dominated by free-space loss and misleads. Disable the
toggle, show a helper note explaining the limit, and guard the
handle_event against clients that try to force it.
- Compat CSS layer (assets/css/live_table_compat.css) maps the
shadcn tokens live_table/sutra_ui use (bg-muted, text-foreground,
border-border, bg-background, select-trigger, input-group, etc.)
onto daisyUI base colors, and provides hand-written component CSS
for select/dropdown/input-group/empty so the table has a proper
surface + a select popover that actually hides when closed.
- Default-sort the Contacts table by most recent inserted_at.
- Beacon detail "Plot path" now encodes lat/lon to an 8-char
Maidenhead grid when coordinates are known, so the destination
handed to the path calculator is more precise than the beacon's
stored 4-char grid.
- Rename BackfillLive -> StatusLive, move route from /admin/backfill
to /status, retitle "Backfill Dashboard" -> "Status", drop the
enqueue form (LiveStash + BackfillEnqueueWorker no longer needed
on this page). Contact edit admin back-link now points at /status.
Instead of shelling out to https://gridmap.org/locate/:callsign for
callsign → lat/lon lookups, ports the resolver pipeline from gridmap-web
into this project so the whole flow runs in-process.
New modules:
- Microwaveprop.Qrz — cache facade over the QRZ.com XML callsign API.
Looks up from qrz_callsigns first, falls back to a live fetch, and
upserts the result with a configurable cache_ttl_hours (default
168h / 7 days).
- Microwaveprop.Qrz.Client — HTTP/XML client against
https://xmldata.qrz.com/xml/current/. Holds the session key in an
Agent, transparently re-logs-in on :session_expired, and parses
responses via xmerl.
- Microwaveprop.Qrz.Callsign — Ecto schema for the qrz_callsigns
cache table, binary_id primary key per project convention.
- Microwaveprop.Qrz.Record — slim struct with only the 11 fields
we actually consume (identity, name, grid, address, lat/lon).
The full XML payload stays in the raw :data jsonb column for
anyone who wants the other ~40 QRZ fields.
- Microwaveprop.Geocoder — Req-based client against the Google Maps
Geocoding API. Only called as a fallback when QRZ has no explicit
<lat>/<lon> for the callsign.
- Microwaveprop.CallsignLocation — orchestrator. Reads the
callsign_locations cache, on miss calls Qrz then either uses QRZ's
coords directly or geocodes the formatted address, snaps to an
8-char Maidenhead grid via Microwaveprop.Radio.Maidenhead, and
upserts the result.
Microwaveprop.Radio.CallsignClient.locate/1 is rewritten to delegate
to CallsignLocation.lookup/1 and shape the response back to the
existing {:ok, %{callsign, gridsquare, lat, lon}} contract so the
callers in PathLive and RoverLive don't change.
Wiring:
- priv/repo/migrations/20260413000000_create_qrz_callsigns_and_callsign_locations.exs
creates qrz_callsigns and callsign_locations with unique indexes
on :callsign.
- Microwaveprop.Qrz.Client added to the application supervision tree
so the session Agent is started.
- :xmerl added to extra_applications so the release bundles it.
- config/test.exs wires Req.Test plugs for Microwaveprop.Qrz.Client
and Microwaveprop.Geocoder, forces cache_ttl_hours: 0 so the cache
never short-circuits test-level stubs, and supplies dummy QRZ
credentials.
- config/runtime.exs pulls QRZ_USERNAME / QRZ_PASSWORD / QRZ_AGENT
and GOOGLE_API_KEY from the environment so prod and dev can
configure both upstream keys out of band.
Tests (ported verbatim from gridmap-web):
- test/microwaveprop/qrz/callsign_test.exs — schema/changeset
- test/microwaveprop/qrz_test.exs — cache hit, cache miss, TTL
behavior, upsert on stale, error passthrough, case-insensitive
input
- test/microwaveprop/geocoder_test.exs — success, zero results,
request denied, transport error
- test/microwaveprop/callsign_location_test.exs — end-to-end flow
including the QRZ-lat/lon shortcut and the missing-address error
path
All 1294 tests still pass. Credo strict clean.
Replaces the stream-backed static table for approved beacons with
LiveTable.LiveResource, giving users column sorting and full-text
search across callsign and grid. Custom renderers preserve the
frequency/EIRP formatting, keying label, and on-air badge so the
visual output matches the previous daisyUI cells.
A new Beacons.approved_beacons_query/0 returns the base Ecto query
(`where: approved == true`), assigned onto socket.assigns.data_provider
in mount so live_table's handle_params uses it as the root query and
applies sort/search/paginate on top. The leaflet map above the table
keeps its existing phx-hook+phx-update=ignore setup, and the pending-
approval admin section stays as a stream-backed `<.table>` — live_table
is single-resource-per-liveview and the pending list is a distinct
admin concern anyway.
PubSub updates (beacon created/updated/deleted) now push_patch to the
current path so live_table re-runs handle_params and the table
refreshes in place.
Move Scoring Algorithm directly above About in map and weather-map
sidebars; reorder the horizontal nav so Submit sits before Contacts
to match.
Add a "Plot path to beacon" button on the beacon detail page that
navigates to /path with destination, band (snapped via BandResolver),
and dst_height_ft prefilled from the beacon.
/beacons gains a Leaflet map above the table showing every approved
beacon as a circle marker with a popup that links to the detail page.
New BeaconsListMap JS hook (assets/js/beacons_list_map_hook.ts) walks a
data-beacons JSON payload, fitBounds over the marker set, and mirrors
the format_freq/1 integer-comma formatting used on the detail view so
the popups match the rest of the UI. Approved/on-air beacons render
green, off-air beacons render gray. BeaconLive.Index.mount/3 now
materializes the list into an assign so it can encode it into the data
attribute; the live PubSub path keeps the map in sync on
create/update/delete.
Profile (/u/:callsign) polish: drop the hero-radio, hero-signal, and
hero-information-circle icons per request, and replace the daisyUI
`avatar placeholder` wrapper with a plain flex-centered circle so the
initial letter actually lives inside the circle instead of anchored to
the top-left corner (daisyUI 5 removed the old placeholder-centering
behavior).
Navigation ordering: in the top navbar (layouts.ex) Contacts now sits
immediately before Contact Map instead of after it. All three vertical
sidebars already had them adjacent in the correct order, so only the
horizontal nav changed.
Profile page:
* New MicrowavepropWeb.UserProfileLive at /u/:callsign is a public
page showing a user's contacts and beacons. Resolves case-
insensitively so /u/w5isp and /u/W5ISP are the same thing; unknown
callsigns redirect to /. Uses daisyUI card / stats / table
components with an avatar-placeholder initial and hero icons.
* Accounts.get_user_by_callsign/1 (case-insensitive) plus
Radio.list_contacts_for_user/1 and Beacons.list_beacons_for_user/1
back the page. Beacons list includes both approved and pending so
owners see their drafts.
* The top nav bar and the three LiveView sidebars (MapLive,
WeatherMapLive, ContactMapLive) now render the logged-in callsign
as a navigate link to /u/:callsign instead of a static label.
* Nine new tests cover the lookup, the LiveView render, and the
ownership-scoped queries.
Flexible band input:
* New Microwaveprop.Radio.BandResolver module converts any of:
ADIF wavelength labels ("33cm", "1.25cm", "6mm", case/whitespace
insensitive), numeric frequency strings ("903.100", "10368.000"),
and canonical MHz integers into the one of the site's known bands.
Returns the nearest allowed band for numeric inputs >= 900 MHz,
nil otherwise.
* 902 MHz is added to Contact.@allowed_bands, ContactEdit.@allowed_bands,
AdifImport.@allowed_bands, and the BandResolver list so "33cm"
round-trips end-to-end.
* AdifImport and CsvImport now delegate band resolution to
BandResolver, and Radio.create_contact/2 normalizes the :band attr
on the way in so the manual form and any API callers benefit too.
CsvImport's "invalid band" tests previously used 99999 MHz which
the new resolver snaps to the nearest allowed band; swapped to
"notaband" which is truly unresolvable.
Contacts and beacons list UX:
* Remove the "Submitted" column from /contacts — it duplicated info
already visible on the detail page and was pushing the real
columns off narrow viewports. submitted_cell/1 and its three
column-specific tests go with it.
* Hide the Lat / Lon columns from /beacons — six decimal places of
coordinates weren't useful next to the grid square and took a
disproportionate amount of row width.
- Add belongs_to :user on Beacon schema, preload in get_beacon!/1
- Show "Submitted by {callsign}" on beacon detail page
- Add NTMS donation link on the about page
- Change grid preference text to 8 characters (e.g. EM12kp37)
Registered users can suggest edits to any contact's core fields
(callsigns, grids, band, mode, timestamp). Edits enter an admin
approval queue with field-by-field diff view. On approve, changes
are applied and enrichment re-enqueued if grids/band changed.
Users receive email notification on approve or reject.
Also updates dependabot.yml for mix ecosystem.
- Round grid-derived lat/lon in maybe_fill_latlon changeset step
- Format lat/lon to 6 decimal places on index table
- Migrate existing beacon data to 6 decimal precision
- Add comma separators to EIRP mW display (e.g. 10,000 mW)
- Extract shared add_commas helper for format_freq and format_mw
Height in feet doesn't need decimal precision. Migrates the DB
column, updates schema type, and strips trailing .0 from form
input so the integer cast succeeds.
- Add CommaNumber JS hook for live comma formatting while typing
frequency MHz in the beacon form
- Strip commas server-side before changeset validation
- Order beacon list by most recently added (desc inserted_at)
- Round lat/lon to 6 decimal places in changeset and display
- Round height_ft to integer in changeset and display
- Display coords at 6 decimal places on show page
- Beacon map defaults to just the marker at zoom 11. A daisyUI toggle
switch shows/hides the estimated-coverage cell layer; the coverage
info line and tier legend are hidden unless the toggle is on.
- Beacon detail list replaced with a compact dl grid (2-4 columns).
Lat/lon rounded to 5 decimals, power/height/beamwidth formatted via
Beacon.format_mw/1 so no more "2.5e3" scientific notation or "280.0".
format_mw/1 hoisted onto the schema so index and show share it.
- About page no longer uses prose classes (this project doesn't load
@tailwindcss/typography). Headings, lists, and paragraphs now use
explicit utility classes so they render as intended.
Beacons can now record a directional bearing ("omni" or 0-360 degrees)
and a beamwidth in degrees. The keying list grows from {on_off, fsk}
to include FM Voice, WSPR, and the full Q65A/B/C/D/E × 15/30/60/120
family, grouped via optgroups in the submission form.
- Anonymous users can submit beacons (held pending admin approval)
- Added notes field to beacons (textarea on form, shown on detail page)
- Added Beacons link to /map sidebar nav (mobile + desktop),
removed stale Rover Planner link
- Moved /backfill to /admin/backfill under the admin live_session
- Beacon detail map zooms in two extra levels after fitBounds
Non-admin users can now submit beacons but they are held in an
unapproved state until an admin approves them. Only approved beacons
appear in the public list; pending submissions are shown in a separate
admin-only section on /beacons with Approve and Delete actions. The
show page surfaces a pending badge and an admin-only Approve button
when viewing an unapproved beacon.
Also formats EIRP (mW) on the index page without scientific notation.
Replace the idealised concentric-circle range rings with a realistic
per-HRRR-grid-cell reception map. For every 0.125° grid point within
the band's exceptional range, the estimator computes great-circle
distance, FSPL + atmospheric loss, and applies a cell-specific score
adjustment of (50 - score) * 0.3 dB — score 100 gives a 15 dB ducting
boost, score 0 a 15 dB penalty. Cells below the -145 dBm detection
floor are dropped.
The beacon map hook now renders each surviving cell as a 0.125°
filled rectangle with a tooltip showing tier, Rx dBm, distance, and
HRRR score, so the coverage footprint bulges where ducting conditions
are good and cuts off where they aren't, instead of being a perfect
circle. Falls back to score 50 for cells that don't have HRRR data
yet, so the plot is always useful.
Also fixes the prior all-grey-tiles regression by restoring an
explicit setView() at map creation and adding a post-mount
invalidateSize() for when the map is placed inside a flex container.
The power_mw field represents the beacon's effective radiated power,
not just transmitter output. Relabel it as "TX power (EIRP)" on the
form and detail list, "EIRP (mW)" in the index, and drop the now-
meaningless tx_gain_dbi constant in RangeEstimate since the stored
value already includes antenna gain.
- Add on_the_air boolean to beacons (default true); surfaced as a
checkbox on the form, a badge on the index, and in the detail list.
- Render a Leaflet map on the beacon show page with a marker at the
beacon's lat/lon tooltipped with callsign + frequency. Marker is
green when on air, gray when off.
- Compute and draw a reception-range estimate as concentric signal-
strength rings. New Microwaveprop.Beacons.RangeEstimate solves a
link budget (FSPL + O2/H2O absorption from BandConfig) at five RX
thresholds (-100 to -145 dBm), then scales by 0.5 + score/100 from
the latest Propagation.point_detail at the beacon's grid square, so
current HRRR conditions shift the rings in or out.
- Re-enable the hourly PropagationGridWorker cron and freshness
monitor in dev.exs so dev actually has HRRR-backed scores to feed
the new estimator.
- Rename beacons.height_m to height_ft; migration converts existing
values (m * 3.28084). Form/list/show labels updated.
- Beacon changeset now fills lat/lon from the grid when they're blank
(previously only the reverse worked). Lat/lon and grid inputs are no
longer marked required in the form — enter one side and the other
populates on blur via phx-change.
- Rename beacons.power_watts to power_mw (migration multiplies existing
values by 1000); form/list/show all relabeled to "Power (mW)"
- Fix Add-monitor button alignment on /users/settings by rendering the
label above and putting the input and button in a plain flex row so
the input wrapper margin no longer offsets the button
- Extend the settings page re-auth window from 10 minutes to 24 hours
Beacons:
- Scaffolded with phx.gen.live then reworked so reads are public
and mutations go through a live_session gated by the new
:require_admin on_mount hook in UserAuth
- Beacon schema stores frequency (MHz), callsign, grid, lat/lon,
power (W), and height above ground (m); grid auto-derives from
lat/lon when left blank via Maidenhead.from_latlon
- Adds Maidenhead.from_latlon/3 so we can compute grids locally
instead of hitting an external API
Users admin page:
- /users and /users/:id/edit (admin-only) for listing, editing
(callsign/name/email/is_admin), and deleting other users
- Adds Accounts.list_users, admin_update_user, delete_user, and
a dedicated admin_changeset on the User schema
- Nav gains a "Users" link for admins and a "Beacons" link for
everyone
